MATERIAL ORGANISM / / TIMBER IN BROOKLYN
Comp Studio / / Spring 2013
Comprehensive Design Studio focused on the design of a high-performance, high density urban housing prototype that capitalizes on the ecological merits of wood as a primary building material. Using primarily Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glu-Lam columns and trusses, this project created a “Material Organism” to guide and organize the Development.
The Urban context as well as environmental responses lead to a stripped concrete podium, juxtaposed with a wood residential tower. The project is layered both horizontally across the site as well as vertically up the tower in both forms of programmatic and material changes.
